I've totally and completely stolen this entire post (as follows) from my sister in law, Amy, because it was so very well put, and I couldn't have put it any better myself. :) (Thanks Amy!)
Buttermilk Syrup (the kind you get at Magleby's Fresh)
I am posting this recipe on my blog so that I don't lose it, plus I think more people need to know about this syrup. It is a trillion times better than any pancake/waffle syrup you have ever tried. I first had this syrup at Magleby's Fresh in Provo, Ut. It is a tradition for us to go there for there all-you-can-eat french toast in the morning for $4.95. Incredibly yummy! With their french toast they serve this buttermilk syrup that is fantastic. You must try it and let me know what you think!
Buttermilk Syrup
1/2 cup real butter
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 tsp. light corn syrup
3/4 cup buttermilk
Cook these ingredients in a saucepan until boiling, then add:
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. vanilla

We love the syrup from Magelby's and wanted to figure out how to make it. Our daughter worked there at one time and we tried to bribe her to get the recipe to no avail. I guess we taught her work ethic better than I thought. I wanted to make pancakes this morning before church and discovered we had no syrup. I googled "Magelby's syrup"(wrong spelling) and your blog came up. We didn't have any butter milk either. Substitued for 1 cup buttermilk for 7/8 milk 1/8 lemon juice, let stand for 5 min. Turned out great! Thanks for your blog. We'll be putting this recipe in our collection. Thanks!
No problem Andy! Also, I've just fixed my spelling error. :) Glad I could help anyway though!
I just made it this morning, and I thought it was a little sweet. so If you aren't a super sweet tooth, I would add a little less sugar.
ALSO, USE A MUCH BIGGER PAN THAN YOU THINK YOU'LL NEED. IT gets huge when it boils and then when you add the soda it gets eve bigger and goes all over. :)
